The SCHOLAR Forum is a not-for-profit partnership between Heriot-Watt University and The Association of Directors of Education in Scotland (ADES). The partnership was established in 2000 to provide high quality interactive online materials for Scottish schools, enhance classroom practice and manage a national CPD programme in e-learning and educational technology for teachers.

SCHOLAR has completed a major multi-million pound enhancement of the programme. Currently 33 online highly interactive SQA courses at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher levels are available in a range of STEM, business and language subjects. A complete suite of Mathematics and English at all three levels is available.

Since its inception, SCHOLAR allows Scottish students a unique opportunity to study anytime and anywhere and supports learners and teachers to fulfil the aims of Curriculum for Excellence.

All 32 Local Authorities, 33 independent schools and 5 Regional colleges in Scotland subscribe to SCHOLAR.  It currently provides over 130,000 student and 10,000 teacher registrations making it one of the largest e-learning programmes for schools in the world.

SCHOLAR is also playing a key role in delivering the Scottish National Standardised Assessment (SNSA) programme led by the Australian Council for Educational Research with Twig World as the third partner.  SCHOLAR is responsible for the provision of SNSA professional development training for teachers from nearly 3,500 schools across Scotland.
